Radios for Rescue

Formed in 1978, La Plata County Search and Rescue (LPCSAR) provides search and rescue operations in La Plata and surrounding counties.  100 dedicated volunteers venture into the unforgiving mountains, backcountry trails, treacherous snowscapes and rushing white water rivers to ensure the safety of those who find themselves in perilous situations.

LPCSAR needs sophisticated 800 MHz radios to communicate on the front lines and with partner agencies  – when minutes matter.  Current devices are severely outdated, are out of manufacturer support and replacement parts are unavailable.

Their plan called for $175,000 for 50 radios. With $70,000 raised in 2023, LPCSAR acquired 20 radios. RADIOS FOR RESCUE is a community-wide campaign being conducted in Summer, 2024 to raise the $105,000 needed to acquire the last 30 radios.
